Project Linus

The Project Linus Mission

Project Linus is comprised of hundreds of local chapters and thousands of volunteers across the United States. Each volunteer and local chapter all work together to provide love, a sense of security, warmth and comfort to children who are seriously ill, traumatized, or otherwise in need through the gifts of new, handmade blankets and afghans, lovingly created by volunteer “blanketeers.”

Together they have distributed over three million blankets to children in need since their inception in 1995.

Locally, Project Linus donates blankets to many organizations including women's shelters, foster care services, police units, homeless shelters, and hospitals, especially Ben Ali Shriners Hospital Sacramento.

IHQ member Karen Donnnici collects flannel fabrics in prints appropriate for preemies thru 18 years old for this project and makes it available to anyone who would volunteer to sew them together into enveloped blankets.  Sizes start with a minimum of 30" x 30" square to rectangles 30" by 36" up to 44" by 54". This group also accepts blankets that are quilted, tied, knitted, crocheted or fleece.  They must be new, handmade and washable....Quoting Project Linus, "Elaborate or simple, they are all beautiful to a child.”  Pease visit the Project Linus website and contact Karen Donnici with any questions.
